About Us
the Hammers Company is a Maryland based woman owned small business with nearly 34 years of experience providing aerospace software and related services for major satellite programs. Our products and services are provided to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), and other government and commercial customers worldwide. Since our founding, we have contributed to more than 100 satellite missions with flight, ground, and simulation software, systems engineering, and IT infrastructure services.
Hammers has decades of experience developing real-time flight, simulation, and ground software systems for dozens of government and commercial satellite projects. We develop flight software for spacecraft guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) and command and data handling (C&DH) and flight software for science instrument payloads. We provide flight software verification and sustaining engineering services. We also provide attitude control analysis and algorithm development, spacecraft simulations (VIRTUALSAT®), spacecraft integration and test support, and mission operations support. The Hammers Company is co-developer of NASA’s cFE/cFS flight software system, widely used on a variety of satellite platforms from large observatories to CubeSats.
Hammers provides ground software products for satellite real-time dynamic simulation, command and control, trending and analysis, operations automation, and operations planning. Our commercial command and control system, GALAXY®, derived from the ITOS software we developed for NASA, has been used on missions ranging from CubeSats and balloons, to NASA Explorers (SMEX and MidEx), to large space- and earth-science observatories (Fermi, Landsat), interplanetary missions (LRO, Artemis), and constellations (CYGNSS, THEMIS, and RADARSAT Constellation). The HammersCompany is co-developer of NASA’s Goddard Mission Services Evolution Center (GMSEC), and our ground systems software is GMSEC compatible.
Our company also provides engineering, integration, and verification services for developing mission operations centers, operations concepts, and operations plans and procedures, as well as support for observatory integration and testing. Hammers was the prime contractor for designing, developing, testing, and deploying the Landsat 8 mission operations element and is a key team member in developing the new multi-mission Landsat operations center at NASA/GSFC which will include Landsat’s 8 and 9 controlled with one GALAXY command and control system. The Canadian Space Agency will use GALAXY as their satellite command and telemetry operations system for the RADARSAT constellation.
Additional aerospace engineering support capabilities include engineering support services for the NASA Wallops Flight Facility (WFF). One subcontract area includes providing the full spectrum of engineering design and analysis activities necessary for the development of sub-orbital launch vehicles, and payloads including flight performance and dynamics; structural and mechanical; guidance navigation and control and environmental testing. The other WFF engineering support is for NASA’s Sounding Rocket Program Range Operations for instrumentation operations and ground support systems.
